Snowflake Quilt - 1930s Embroidery Pattern Nancy Page The patterns for the Snowflake Quilt originated in the 1930’s in series of newspaper patterns by Florence LaGanke Harris. As part of a series, LaGanke presented one new pattern each week. In addition to the pattern, the reader was treated to a fictitious story about a quilt group and their leader, Nancy Page. There are various stitches used in embroidering the snow flakes. Doubtless you are familiar with many of them, but a picture review and printed descriptions are provided as part of the original pattern series. The stitches are: Roumanian, Chain, Cable, Chain Feather, Fishbone, Feather, Cretan, Stem. As designed, the snow flake quilt was done in white on blue as soft and cool as the sky when the snowy clouds let us catch a peep of it. As designed, there are 12 blocks, each 15" square. The quilt is planned for a twin sized bed, measuring 75" x 99". You can easily alter your finished size by altering the size of the background blocks, the borders, or the outside border.
