A Jolly Circus Quilt Pattern, 1921

Who doesn’t cherish the memory of the happy hours spent at the circus, with its pomp and splendor, its trained animals and trick clowns? And what child wouldn’t be proud to have this circus quilt for his or her very own—especially when it would be such fun helping mother make it in a few hours’ time."

This pattern, by Ruby Short McKim originally appeared in Woman's World Magazine in 1921.  It contains 12 designs.  The original quilt featured 2 parade strips (one for the top, and one for the bottom) measuring  7 1/2" by 30", which could be ordered directly. Those designs have not been located. But a photo is included in the scan... if you feel adventurous :0)

When you are ready to make a square, print it out and transfer it with a transfer pen or pencil. Another transfer method is to use a light box and trace design directly onto fabric with a water-soluble pen. Other methods are available, and you can choose the one that suits your style best.
