The State Flowers Quilt, by Ruby McKim/ McKim Studios, was originally published in 1931 through a series of newspaper patterns. There are 48 blocks in the entire series with a diagram of the completed quilt layout.
"Instructions for making the quilt are very simple. These drawings are exact size to make into a quilt block on a smooth piece of muslin, 7 by 9 inches... Embroider in the naturalistic colors of the flowers, using the simple, well-known stitches such as outline, lazy-daisy, buttonhole and French knot. An ivory tone material, slightly darker than unbleached muslin, is even more effective than white for background as some of the flowers are to be embroidered in white."
Each design measures approximately 4" high x 6" wide. A description of each flower and color suggestions are provided in the written text.
