The TOY SHOP WINDOW Quilt by McKim Studios 1933
The Toy Shop Window Quilt is a vintage quilt pattern by Ruby McKim. The designs were originally published in the 1930's in a series of newspaper articles. The blocks are designed to be worked on 9" muslin squares and include coloring suggestions.
Coloring suggestions, block 1: For this block the candy cane should have narrow red stripes, the whistle cord might be every other section green to make a green and white twist. Horn and whistle could be shades of gold and orange, ball bright rose or vermilion. Blue and white makes a nice little sock; monkey, purple, brown or crimson.
Suggested are several methods of developing this quilt so one really may choose their favorite handwork. Crayon craft is easiest, extremely effective and fairly practical for wear and washing. Wax crayoning when properly set with a hot iron will not bleed to hurt the material when laundered but the colors will lighten some. However they can be easily retouched. Embroidery, mostly in outline or narrow chain stitch with some accents solidly filled is an old favorite, while colorful splashes of appliqué combined with embroidery make a third attractive solution.
